It’s the season of scars and of wounds in the heart
Of feeling the full weight of our burdens
It’s the season of bowing our heads in the wind
And knowing we are not alone in fear
Not alone in the dark— “The Atheist’s Christmas Carol”, Vienna Teng
This song has long been a Christmas standard for me, but it felt especially applicable this year. I started this on Christmas Eve and only just finished it up.
It is dark times, and I can’t yet see an end to that. But if there is one thing I have learned—over the course of my life, but especially in the aftermath of the election—it is that I am not alone. None of us are. And I believe that we can make from that solidarity a way out of the darkness.
